OBITUARY: Yoshiko Jane “Bubbles” Keikoan

KEIKOAN, YOSHIKO JANE “BUBBLES,” passed away peacefully on March 17, 2010.

Bubbles was born on April 10, 1927 in Sacramento to Yoshisuke and Kane Keikoan.

She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Uratsu, brother Rye Keikoan, niece Sharon (Uratsu) Walden, nephews Michael Keikoan and Patrick Guilday. She is survived by her sister Sumi (John) Guilday, brother Harry Shoji Keikoan, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces.

She and her family were interned during World War II at Tulelake, Calif., and Topaz, Utah. She graduated from Topaz High School in 1945. She was known in the community for her basketball skills while on the Sacramento Saints basketball team. The team won many championships throughout the West Coast. She was also an active bowler from her early twenties, and she continued to bowl after she retired from her work as a State of California employee in May 1992. She received many awards for her bowling accomplishments. She was inducted into the Japanese American National Bowling Association Hall of Fame, Meritorious Service in 1998.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento-Betsuin, 241 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95818.
