The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco on April 28 announced the recipients of the 2010 Spring Conferment of Decoration.Among the recipients of the kunsho, or medals of honor from the Japanese government, are:
• Kayoko Fujimoto, an ikebana teacher from San Leandro, Calif., who is being bestowed the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for contributing to the promotion of cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the U.S.;
• Tomoye Takahashi and Masako Martha Suzuki of San Francisco, co-founders of the Henri and Tomoye Takahashi Charitable Foundation, who are receiving the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for contributing to the promotion of exports of Japanese hand-crafted items to the U.S., contributing to the promotion of Japanese culture in the U.S., and contributing to the preservation and education of the public on the history and culture of Japanese Americans; and
• Fern Harger of Santa Rosa, Calif., former president of the Berkeley-Sakai Sister City Association and former president of the Friends of Kagoshima Association in Santa Rosa, who is being bestowed the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays for contributing to the promotion of exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the U.S.
