OBITUARY: Helen Yamasaki

YAMASAKI, HELEN, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2010, exhausted from her battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a breast cancer survivor.

Born in Hawaii, she made her way to California and eventually settled in Fremont to raise her family. Helen was a retired secretary. She was active at the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City and served as a Dharma School teacher for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Tahoe, with her husband and having dinners with family and close friends.

Helen is survived by her husband of 47 years, Mas and her children Lauren, Kyle (Betty) and 3 grandchildren. She is missed by her sisters, brothers, many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Helen spent the final 6 months of her life at Fremont Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 3 p.m. at Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City, 32975 Alvarado Niles Rd., Union City, CA 94587.
