ITO, TOMOMI “TOM,” 90, Passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at home in Berkeley. A native of Fallon, Nevada, and long-time resident of Berkeley.

Survived by daughter, Diane Nishioka and husband, Michael; sons, Robert, Kevin, and Richard; sisters, Shizu Matsui, Taka Watanabe and husband, Tak, and Tomi Isono; in-laws, Emi Chikuma and husband, John, and Fumi Karaki and husband, Skook; grandchildren, Brian and wife, Kristine, Keith, Kellen, and Annelise; and many nieces, nephews, and other kindred. Preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mami; parents, Kensuke and Shiki; and sister, Yo Adachi.

Tom was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps Military Intelligence Service during World War II, and served mainly in the Pacific. He graduated from Cal Berkeley in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and was the owner of Nippon Co., wholesaler of Asian foods in San Francisco and Berkeley; retired 1985.

Member, Higashi Honganji Buddhist Church; Berkeley Buddhist Church; Japanese American Citizens League; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Cal Alumni Association; and California Japanese American Alumni Association.

Friends and acquaintances are cordially invited to attend his memorial service Saturday, March 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church, 1 Lawson Road, Kensington. Interment, Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito.
