TAKAHASHI, SHIGEHARU “SHIG,” 97, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2011. He was born on December 24, 1913 in Wakayama, Japan, and came to California when he was eight. He was a loving husband of Best Takahashi for 68 years, devoted father of Jere (Terri), Carol (Chris) and Rick (Candy), and doting grandfather of Jae, Kenny, Candice and Annie. He is also survived by his younger brother, Moto (Tazu). Shig graduated from Cal with a degree in Horticulture. Just before being interned at Topaz (Utah) during World War II, he married Best. Following the war he was a landscape gardener before entering the U.S. Postal Service. He was an avid golfer and a co-founder of the Peninsula Fairways Golf Club (San Mateo). He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various sports. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held on February 12, 2011 at noon at Sturge Presbyterian Church, 25 South Humboldt St., San Mateo.
