John J. Hiramoto

HIRAMOTO, JOHN J. passed away peacefully January 11, 2012 in El Cerrito, at 96 years of age. He was a native of Lodi, and a 53-year resident of El Cerrito. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruby Hiramoto; daughters, Joni Hiramoto and her husband, Peter Baker and Dana Hiramoto, all of El Cerrito; sisters, Masako Fujikawa and her husband, Hiro of Lodi, Keiko Hiramoto-Hess and her husband, Mel of El Sobrante; brother, Edward Hiramoto of Berkeley; sisters-in-law, Terry Hiramoto of Lodi, Elsie Ogata of Berkeley and Kimi Adachi of El Cerrito; and grandsons, Brennan, Masao and Christopher MacMaster, all of El Cerrito. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and in 1944 graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology. He worked for many years as a civil engineer at Bechtel Corporation, San Francisco; retired 1983. Member and past president (1988), Oakland Buddhist Church; member, Contra Costa JACL, Richmond; Hiroshima Kenjin-Kai, Oakland; American Legion Post 340, El Cerrito and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9879, San Francisco.

Friends are cordially invited to attend memorial services Saturday, January 21 at 2 p.m. at the Oakland Buddhist Church, 825 Jackson St., Oakland. Cremation and private interment, Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito.
