HORIO, MICHIKO (MICHI) passed away peacefully in her sleep in her own residence on December 31, 2011 at the age of 89. She was the widow of Toshio Horio, who passed away 20 years earlier. Michiko had recently enjoyed Christmas Eve and Christmas celebrations only a few days earlier at the homes of family and friends. Up until her death she was healthy and fit, able to live independently in her apartment in the middle of Japantown.
She is survived by her son James, her daughter Janet Ninomiya, both of San Francisco, and several nieces and nephews.
Michiko was an extraordinary woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. at Christ United Presbyterian Church 1700 Sutter St., San Francisco.
