TAKEDA, NELLIE FUMIKO, 98, passed away peacefully at home at age 98 with her family at her bedside. A lifelong resident of Alameda, Calif. Nellie was born in Alameda on January 10, 1914, and died May 7, 2012. Nellie joins her loving husband, Bill, and is survived by her six children, Judy (George) Furuichi, Jo (George) Takata, Kent (Erma) Takeda, David (Kathy) Takeda, Susan (Hiko) Shimamoto and Carol (Bob) Muramoto; five grandchildren, Kristin (Darren Fong), Scott, Jeremy, Kate and Mitchell; and six great-grandchildren, Ryan, Cameron, Mia, Mika, Keira and Olivia. Nellie was a devoted member of Buena Vista United Methodist Church in Alameda and spent much of her life as an advocate for the Issei generation. Her home was always open to friends and strangers alike.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Nellie’s life on Saturday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at the Buena Vista United Methodist Church, 2311 Buena Vista Ave., Alameda, Calif.
