IWASAKI, SHIGETOSHI passed away on April 17, 2012 in San Francisco. He was born on May 13, 1923 in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, served with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, E Company and received his Congressional Gold Medal in November 2011. A retired carpenter, he continued to use his craftsmanship skills to keep busy in his garage workshop. He was an avid fisherman who handmade his own fishing lures. Shig kept active and enjoyed bowling twice a week. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Kazuko. He is survived by his daughter Carrie (Jerry) Koyanagi; son Alan Iwasaki; and grandchildren Christopher (Lindsay) and Jennifer Koyanagi; Kellie and Jairus Iwasaki. A memorial service was held at the Buddhist Church of San Francisco on May 13 and he was interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu on May 16.
