At 5-foot-9, 175-pounds, Norichika Aoki is one of the smaller players on the Brewers roster.
But on Aug. 7, the right fielder came up big when he hit a two-RBI single off San Francisco reliever Santiago Casilla in the eighth, ensuring Milwaukee’s 6-1 victory.
Aoki was hitless off Giants starter Madison Bumgarner before connecting with Casilla’s fastball, sending it flying sharply up the middle.
“I was happy to get a big hit that went straight through the infield,” Aoki said during a post-game interview. “I’m happy that we won.”
He finished the evening 1-for-5.
As of this writing, the 31-year-old Aoki is batting .278 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs. He is 11-for-17 in stolen base attempts.
The win in San Francisco was uplifting for the Brewers, who are currently last in the N.L. Central with a 54-71 record.
