Ichinose, Tokihide (Tony), 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of July 31, 2013, at Palm Villas Assisted Living in Redwood City, Calif. The staff at Palm Villas has been extremely attentive and caring in Tony’s care over the last several months.
Born Aug. 5, 1924 in Tokyo, Japan, Tony graduated from Keio University with a degree in Chemistry and was a high school teacher before immigrating to San Francisco where he started a wholesale fish business and became a lifelong Giants fan.
Husband to late wife Kimiko Yoshimura Ichinose, Tokihide was one of seven children and was preceded in death by brothers Hiromasa and Hideo, and sister Akiko. Tokihide is survived by brother Katsumi, sisters Setsuko and Yoshiko, daughter Joyce, and numerous extended family.
In recognition of a life supported by the ocean, Tony requested that in lieu of funeral or flowers, donations be made toward supporting ocean preservation. Cremated remains will be placed at the Japanese Cemetery in Colma during a private ceremony later this month.
