
OMI, EUGENE DAIGO, 93, passed away peacefully Oct. 3, 2013. Eugene was born Aug. 6, 1920, in the small town of Woods Crossing, Stockton, Calif. His father and mother, Torazo and Koto Omi, came from Niigata, Japan. He was the second to the youngest of five brothers and two sisters. Eugene attended Modesto Junior College and San Mateo College where he received his A.A. in Agriculture and Horticulture.
On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Doris Midori Sato at the Fresno Methodist Church. They lived in San Mateo before moving to Redwood City, where they raised their two daughters.
Eugene enjoyed working as a gardener. His favorite hobbies were fishing, golfing and tending to his many bonsai trees. Eugene will be remembered for his love of beauty for gardening and his skill in making everything blossom and grow. He will be remembered for his strong love of family, gentle smile and wonderful sense of humor. His kindness to all made the world a better place.
Eugene is survived by his daughters, Nancy Omi-Hara and Mary Jean Hasegawa; son-in-laws, Scott Hara and Glenn Hasegawa; and grandson, Garrett Hara.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at Sturge Presbyterian Church, 25 S. Humboldt St., San Mateo, Calif.
