MOMITA, MARGARET CHIEKO, 99, resident of Davis, Calif., passed away on Oct. 30, at the age of 99 years. A native of San Francisco., Margie was one of three children born to Kyonosuke and Miyo Shigezumi. In 1938 Margie visited Japan to tour and meet distant relatives. She was later employed by the Chilean Consulate because of her high school Spanish language. She was able to survive the bombings of Tokyo during WWII and later worked for the U.S. Army during the occupation. When Margie returned home she met and later married Harry Momita of Long Beach, Calif., and resettled there to own and operate a pharmacy. Years after Harry’s death, Margaret moved to Davis in order to be closer to her sister Alice Nishi of Davis and brother, George Shigezumi of San Francisco.

Margaret was active in the Sacramento Tanoshimi Kai, where she often served meals to seniors well into her 90’s taking the bus between Davis and Sacramento.

Margaret enjoyed global travel and cited Egypt and China as two of her favorite destinations.

Margaret was able to live independently in her own home until age 98, when she moved to an Assisted Care facility in Davis.

Margaret is survived by three step-children, Elaine Morinaga of Cypress, Calif., Louise Kaneshiro of Gardena, Calif., and Milton Momita of Clayton, Calif. She is also survived by one sister, Alice Nishi of Davis and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at the Davis Community Church, 412 C Street, Davis, CA 95616. On Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.
