NAKAI, FUSAKO “SALLY”, 91, who was active in the Bay Area’s Japanese American community for more than six decades, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11.

Fusako Miyanaga was born on Jan. 14, 1922 in Salinas. During World War II, her family was sent to the Poston War Relocation Center. In 1947, she married Albert Nakai, whom she had met at Poston. The couple moved to East Palo Alto where they built a successful business growing prize-winning chrysanthemums. They later retired, living in Atherton and Redwood City.

Albert passed away in 2008. Fusako is survived by two daughters, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, Palo Alto Buddhist Temple.
