HAYASHIDA, MASAKO, 95, died peacefully at a nursing home in Los Gatos, Calif. on Feb. 3, 2014. She was born in Berkeley, Calif. on Oct. 9, 1918. Her parents were Naokichi and Masuyo Nakagaki Mitsuyasu of Japan. She was predeceased by her husband Bob Sadami Hayashida, her daughter Cathy Akemi Romeo, her brother Kiyoshi Mitsuyasu (Irene; deceased), and her sister Haruko Inadomi (Jimmy Kusuo). Surviving her are brother Masao Mitsuyasu (Fujiko), son Sady Hayashida (Amy Konishi), and grandsons Drew and Ravi Hayashida. She had opened up her home in Berkeley, after her husband died, to many students, scholars, and ministers as boarders who became close to her and many considered her as their adopted mother. She was a long time resident of Berkeley and member of the Berkeley Buddhist Temple, was involved with Japanese Dance, Tea Ceremony, Calligraphy, and flower arrangements. Services will be held at the Berkeley Buddhist Temple at 2121 Channing Way, Berkeley, Calif. on Feb. 22, 2014 at 2 pm.
