HANYU, NOBORU (NOBI), 97, passed away on March 3, 2014 before his 98th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years. He had no children but was beloved by all of his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sisters Masako Iwase and Fumi Hope McIrvin.
He was born in San Francisco and lived most of his life there. During WWII he and his family were sent to Topaz Internment Camp in Utah. After the war, Nobi worked for the General Services Administration retiring in 1983.
He was an active member and benefactor of the San Francisco Buddhist Church, the Buddhist Churches of America, and affiliated organizations. He served as Treasurer, President, and Board member during parts of his 60 year service.
Memorial services will be held March 22, 11:00AM at the San Francisco Buddhist Church, 1881 Pine St.. Memorial Contributions may be made to the church in lieu of koden or flowers.
