YAMAMOTO, YASUKO, 94, entered Nirvana on May 20, 2014. She will be remembered fondly by her husband, Takeo Yamamoto; step children Coleen (Gary) Matsuno, Scott (Julie) Yamamoto, Joan (Josh) Oen and step grandchildren Brian and Mark Matsuno; brother Masao (Helen) Sugiyama, sister-in-law Marie Sugiyama; nieces and nephews Sharon Carmichael, Shirley Sugiyama, Susan Clifford, Patty Gilmore, Karen Sugiyama, Garret Sugiyama, Take Uyeda and their families.
Born on May 5, 1920 in Bowman, Calif., Yasuko was the second youngest of Masaki and Tane Sugiyama’s five children. Yasuko graduated from Placer High School in Auburn, Class of 1940. Her family was interned at Tule Lake, Calif. during WWII. After the war, she moved to San Francisco to train as a seamstress and begin her long career with Marubeni Corporation. Following retirement, Yasuko and Takeo married in 1990 and continued to reside in San Francisco. Yasuko studied ikebana and took great pleasure in travelling. The couple relocated to Fremont, Calif. in 2009.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Southern Alameda Buddhist Church, 32975 Alvarado-Niles Road, Union City, Calif.
