HORIKIRI, MUTSUYO, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 25, 2017 surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, Shinobu Horikiri, children Toshiaki, Keijiro (Michiko), Grace (Kalen) and Geary (Angel). Born Sept. 3, 1925 in Courtland, CA, Mutsuyo was sent to Japan at age 2 with her older sister to live with their uncle and aunt. She spent her early years in Kagoshima, Japan and attended junior high and high school in Dairen, China. Mutsuyo returned to Japan to raise her two sons and in 1960 came back to America. She has called San Francisco her home for the past 57 years. Mutsuyo worked at Hokubei Mainichi as a typesetter for many years. She also was past president of the Church of Perfect Liberty’s Funjinkai, Kimon Gakuen’s PTA and principal, as well as long time member of the Beikoku Karaoke Kayo Club. Often called “okaasan†by many, she will be missed but her spunkiness, creativity and ability to bring people together will forever be remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat., Feb. 11 (11am) at the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of No. CA. The family wishes to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. In lieu of koden please consider making a donation in her memory to your favorite charity.
