KANAYA, KIMIO, 84, of Foster City, passed away on May 16, 2017 due to a pneumonia illness.
Kimio was born April 27, 1933 in Seattle, Washington to parents, Kiu Kanaya and Mitsuko Sasaji. He was interned with his family at Tule Lake and lived in Oregon after WWII. He moved to the Santa Clara Valley as a teenager, graduated from Live Oak High School and earned a degree in Civil Engineering from San Jose State. Right after graduation, Kimio married his college sweetheart, Marian Iwanaga, in 1956. After working more than thirty years in construction and running his own company, Kanaya Construction, he retired in 1994. In his post retirement years, Kim enjoyed spending time with and babysitting his four grandchildren.
Kimio is survived by his wife Marian, sons Neal, Keith, Duane (Susan), Craig, Richard (Dina) and daughter Cindy (Ron); grandchildren Kristin, Emily, Jordyn and Paul; and sister Sumi Nakashima (Jack).
A private memorial service will be held for the family and they kindly request no koden. Memorial donations can be made to San Mateo Kimochi.
