OBITUARY: Richard “Dick” M. Fujii

FUJII, RICHARD “DICK” M., 76. It is with great sadness that the family of Richard M. Fujii announces his passing on Wednesday May 30, 2018. His family was by his side after a short battle with cancer. Dick is preceded in death by his parents Masuji and Hiro Fujii. He is survived by Jane, his wife of 57 years, his children Chris Fujii, Debbie (Dave) Yatabe and Michael (Nam) Fujii, “Papa” to four grandchildren Jennifer & Keith Yatabe and Narumi & Sayuri Fujii and siblings Kenneth (Terry) Fujii, Edwin (Marilyn) Fujii and Linda (Frank) Fujikawa.

Dick was born on September 1, 1941 in Oakland California where he attended Oakland Tech. He graduated from SF State and moved to Berkeley to raise his family. He worked at Cal/Ink for decades and retired from Saylor and Hill where he served as their Comptroller. He was as devoted to his community as he was to his family. He spent much of his adult life playing sports (basketball and golf), coaching youth basketball, and serving as a board member, president and treasurer for the Berkeley Higashi Honganji. His passions included a love for music, most recently expressing this as a member of the “Sentimental Strummers” singing and playing the ukulele. He was also a long time Raiders and Warriors fan and enjoying their current success.
