OBITUARY: Yuji Okano

Yuji Okano

OKANO, YUJI, 85, passed away peacefully at home in Palo Alto on Monday August 27, 2018. He was a long time member and volunteer of the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple and worked as a Senior Buyer at General Electric.

Yuji, born Sep. 4, 1932, grew up in Wheatland, CA and was valedictorian of Wheatland High School in 1950. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1954 and served as an officer in the army. Yuji was also an avid San Francisco Giants’ fan and he would often wear his distinctive Giants’ hats!

Yuji was tender, compassionate, humorous and much loved. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eimi Kimura Okano; his children Cary Okano (Greg Cohen), Garett (Maria) Okano, Kim (Mark) Shimazaki; grandchildren Markus, Carlos, Zackary, Claire, Anna, Leah. He is the dear brother of Alice and the late: Fumiko, William, Henry, George, Itsuo, Tami, Kango.

A service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 2 p.m. at Palo Alto Buddhist Temple, 2751 Louis Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303.
