Jay Hisashi Yamamura

YAMAMURA, JAY HISASHI, 72, passed away peacefully at home the evening of September 25th surrounded by family. “Sash” was born in San Francisco and grew up in SF’s Japantown, and made many of his life-long friends in Japanese American community institutions like the San Francisco Associates basketball and Boy Scouts Troop 58. He worked as an electrician, and was a 50-year member of San Francisco’s International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 6. Hisashi was a devoted husband to Eiko, loving father to Tim, brother to Emi, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He fought long and hard after being diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2012. Even at the end, he worried about others and wanted to give support to those he loved. Hisashi will be remembered for his quiet strength, his passion for life, and the selfless love he gave his family and friends throughout his life.

As per Hisashi’s wishes, his family will be having a “Celebration of Life” party in his honor. The party will be held on October 20, 2018 from 3:00 – 6:00, with a toast at 4:00 PM, at Konko Church of San Francisco Social Hall, 1755 Laguna Street, San Francisco, CA 94115. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity in Hisashi’s name.
