The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has appointed the county’s third-ever poet laureate and its first who is an Asian American, county officials said. San Mateo resident Aileen Cassinetto was appointed Oct. 23 to the honorary role, which involves celebrating and elevating poetry around the county.
The position was created in 2013 and Caroline Goodwin was named the county’s first poet laureate that year. Lisa Rosenberg followed in 2016 and Cassinetto will be the third when her two-year term starts in January, county officials said.
Cassinetto is the author of multiple books and is the publisher of Paloma Press, an independent literary press established in 2016.
