SF: Mayor announces new appointments to Fire Commission

San Francisco Mayor London Breed on Jan. 15 announced a Superior Court judge and a fire prevention expert as the new appointments to the city’s Fire Commission.

Judge Katherine Feinstein and Tony Rodriguez have been appointed to the commission by Breed, who also re-appointed Stephen Nakajo to a seat on the panel that meets twice a month and creates and enforces policies for the city’s Fire Department.

Feinstein, the daughter of U.S. Sen. and former Mayor Dianne Feinstein, is replacing a commissioner who also has family ties to City Hall in Joe Alioto Veronese, the grandson of former Mayor Joseph Alioto.

Rodriguez, who has more than 35 years of experience in the sprinkler industry, is a trustee on the San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council and is involved in several local community service organizations, according to the mayor’s office.

The term for the seat Feinstein is filling will end on Jan. 15, 2021. Rodriguez is replacing Michael Hardeman, whose term ends on Jan. 15, 2024.

Nakajo, the co-founder and executive director of the Kimochi Senior Center that helps the Japanese American senior community, was initially appointed to the commission in 1996 by then-Mayor Willie Brown.
