Whitey Hideo Shiro

Jan. 1, 1928 – Feb. 12, 2020

SHIRO, WHITEY HIDEO, 92, passed away peacefully in San Francisco, CA. Whitey was born in Colusa, CA to Yoshimatsu and Hatsu Shiro.

He grew up in Grimes, CA (a farming community) with his brothers Kazuo, Joe, Bob, George and Jim.

In May 1942, the Shiro family, including Whitey, was evacuated under Executive Order 9066 and placed in internment centers in Merced, CA and later Amache, CO. After being released from camp in 1945, Whitey, his parents, and three of his brothers moved to San Francisco (first staying at the SF Buddhist Church, Hunters Point and Portrero Hill housing projects, then to the Sunset District) where he graduated from Lowell High School.

Whitey served 2 years in the Army from 1950-1952, then graduated from Heald College focusing on electronics. He owned and operated Tad’s TV in Mill Valley, CA from 1962-1995. Whitey had season tickets to the 49ers for over 27 years and was also a huge SF Giants fan. Over the years, he also enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family, going on road trips with friends, working in his garden, and going for walks at Ocean Beach. Whitey will be greatly missed for his humor, intelligence and his fun-loving approach to life.
