MORGAN HILL, Calif. — Two men under investigation for suspected gang involvement were arrested in September and 21 firearms were seized, Morgan Hill police said Oct. 20.
The arrests followed an investigation of gang activities that began in June by the Stockton Police Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit, the California Department of Justice, and the California Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit, in conjunction with the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.
The agencies were looking at the activities of the Asian Boyz, Muddy Boyz Crips, Lil Ruthless Criminals Comstocc Crips, Loctown Crips, and Asian Crip gangs due to an increase in gang-related violent crime in Stockton, officials said.
Investigators learned that two Arizona men suspected of involvement may have been traveling through or staying in Morgan Hill and notified local police and other agencies.
Morgan Hill police officers located Anthony Comans, 30, and Kwabena Twumasi, 35, at the La Quinta Inn at 17043 Condit Road. The two had just exited a 2015 Cadillac Escalade and were going to the lobby when they were detained without incident, police said.
Police said a search of their vehicle turned up 21 firearms, some illegally altered to be fully automatic.
The men were arrested and booked at the Santa Clara County Jail as suspects in the conspiracy and illegal possession and trafficking of firearms, police said.
