Man arrested for allegedly grabbing teenage girl

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Redwood City police arrested a 35-year-old man last week for allegedly grabbing a teenage girl in a coffee shop, the Redwood City Police Department said June 21.

Officers responded around 6:45 p.m. June 18 to the Teaspoon coffee, tea and dessert bar at 2361 Broadway after receiving reports that the man, identified as Brandon Yamagata, approached the unnamed 16-year-old girl in front of the shop and grabbed her arm in an effort to pull her away.

A third person who witnessed Yamagata allegedly grab the girl intervened and told him to leave the girl alone, according to Redwood City police.

Yamagata then allegedly followed the girl into the coffee shop and attempted to escort her out by grabbing her arm and placing his arm around her back. The bystander intervened a second time and told Yamagata to leave, which he subsequently did.

Officers subsequently arrested Yamagata, who was identified as the suspect who grabbed the girl. Yamagata was then booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility.

People with additional information about Yamagata are encouraged to contact the Redwood City Police Department’s tip line at (650) 780-7110 or Detective Sgt. Nick Perna at (650) 780-7672.
