NAKAHARA, SETSUKO HIBI, 88, passed away on August 14th, 2021, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Redwood City, CA.

Born in Yokohama, Japan, Setsuko moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1957. In 1959 she relocated to California and eventually Japantown in San Francisco, where she raised her four children and lived for most of her life.
Setsuko was a strong, intelligent woman who provided for her family through challenging, as well as prosperous times. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an Obachama, a friend, a

business owner, and so much more. She loved to sing and dance and play mahjong with her dear friends. She was an avid traveler and had the opportunity to visit many countries around the world.

Most of all Setsuko loved being with her family. She loved gathering to enjoy a meal, tell stories, and cuddle with her grandchildren. She was the foundation and the matriarch. She was funny, loving, and passionate, and if you had the pleasure of meeting her, you would not soon forget the strength of her convictions and the warmth in her heart.

She will be remembered by her family: her sister Yasuko; her four children Bud, Jay, Jim, and Jeff and their spouses Donna, Scot, Sarah, and Masako; eight grandchildren and their spouses; two great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews in Japan. She will also be missed by her beloved cat Urara.
