OBITUARY: Mineko Takata

Jan. 1, 1922 – Oct. 23, 2021

TAKATA, MINEKO passed away peacefully on October 23, 2021. Mineko was born in Pescadero, and was the 6th of 9 children to Yutaka and Chiye Yoshifuji. She was incarcerated at the Topaz and Tule Lake Concentration Camp during World War II, and moved with her family to Berkeley after the war.

About 30 years ago, Mineko moved in with the Carlston family, embracing and welcoming a new set of family members. She will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to meet and spend time with her.

Mineko is preceded in death by her husband Kazuma and son Shizuo.

She is survived by: children Michiko (Aki) Kuramoto; Kaz (Michi) Takata; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and sister Noriko Matsuda.

Private family services will be scheduled for December, 2021. Donations can be made to the Buddhist Church of Oakland or the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California in San Francisco in her memory.
