Nob Fukuda
May 11, 1933 – October 5, 2021
A memorial for Nob Fukuda will be held at JCCCNC, 1840 Sutter St, San Francisco, on Saturday June 18, 2022, at 1pm.
NOB FUKUDA was a warrior, a romantic, a social activist, and a lifelong Boy Scout Leader. Because he was the #2 son in the Fukuda family, Nob learned, from the earliest age, to be a warrior, to fight. But even as Nob learned to fight, he also learned to identify injustice, disparity, brutality, and pain in the world around him. Despite the hardships of childhood, or perhaps because of them, Nob was never bitter or cynical, negative or dark – instead he was a starry-eyed idealist, a dreamer. He was a dreamer of better worlds, of the new and impossible, of the Japanese Bilingual Program, of the JCCCNC, of city boys backpacking 25 miles on dirt trails through the Sierras, of Eagle Scouts too numerous to count on a single plaque, of a Japanese community strong and thriving despite past traumas.
Join us on June 18th for a celebration of Nob’s life. An afternoon of refreshments and brief speeches are planned.
