Hitoko Nagasawa
NAGASAWA, HITOKO “HITO”, 99 years old of Sacramento, CA died August 10, 2022. She was born July 5, 1923 in Orange Cove, CA. Just before WWII, Hito’s parents relocated the family to Okayama, Japan. As a young teenager and American, she faced prejudice by the locals. Upon returning to California, Hito married Fujio Nagasawa and was widowed in 1966. In her Land Park neighborhood of 51 years, she was known for raising crispy Japanese cucumbers, gigantic dahlias, and peach-colored roses. Hito did housework, cared for adopted cats, and was a compassionate listener to former employers. After departing her residence, Hito lived with caregiver Barb Reagan for 3 1/2 years. During this time,
Hito was especially happy, because she loved animals.
She was predeceased by her husband Fujio, son Rick, mother-in-law Tsuru (who Hito looked after for two decades) and two siblings. She is survived by brother Joe Koyama. Hito leaves behind her son Gary and his wife Judie Lew, daughter-in-law Deb Nagasawa, three grandchildren: Michelle (Tim) Atkins, Megan (Brian) Matthews and Stephen Nagasawa, and five great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Anastasia and Mikayla Atkins, and Cooper and Dalton Matthews.
Her family appreciated the care given by Manor Care Health Services, especially Elvira, Liliana and Maria. In lieu of services, donations may be made to NorCal Freedom for Paws or Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary.
