Kazue “Kay” Ihara
IHARA, KAZUE “KAY” passed away on November 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 95. She was born in Fresno, CA on August 10, 1927. She was predeceased by her sisters, Kimiko Hirata, Faye Nishioki, Yoshiko Niizawa, and Chiyoko Sakamoto; by her husband Stephen Ihara; and her parents, Hatsutaro and Hisayo Kotsubo.
Kay was interned at Gila River during World War II. She often talked about her internment and her father losing his brand-new Ford car and her brand-new red bicycle. She said many Japanese Americans feel shame to discuss this time but felt it important not to forget.
Kay enjoyed spending time with her friends, going to the casino, and cooking for her loved ones. She loved her activities at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California and having lunch at Kimochi of San Francisco.
Kay is survived by her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and her great-grand nieces and nephews. There will be a private service for Kay with her close family. In lieu of gifts and flowers, please donate to JCCCNC and Kimochi of San Francisco.
