SJ: 2 arrested on suspicion of multiple strong-arm robberies of the AAPI community

Police in San Jose arrested two men March 30 on suspicion of multiple strong-arm robberies that appear to target the Asian American/Pacific Islander community, according to an announcement April 3 from the department.

Between Feb. 24 and March 29, detectives in San Jose investigated a string of strong-armed robberies and identified suspects.

Officers issued search warrants and arrest warrants for Ilyaas Mubarez, 19, and Michael Pruitt, 21, both of Oakland.

Police allege these men are responsible for a number of other robberies throughout the Bay Area.

Both were taken into custody in Oakland and detectives said they recovered various pieces of stolen property, $10,000 in cash, illegal firearms and equipment used to manufacture privately made firearms, also known as ghost guns.

Both men were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of multiple felony counts of robbery, police said.
