Dear Friends,

Nichi Bei Day of Giving Sept. 4, 2023

The Nichi Bei Foundation will enter its 15th year as an innovative nonprofit organization in 2024. We publish the nation’s leading Japanese American community newspaper while offering engaging public educational programs. We hope that you will continue your generous support of our remarkable growth while helping us to uplift our community on this year’s Day of Giving.

Thanks to generous matching donations from The Craig Foundation and the Kinjiro and Eiko Moriguchi Fund, as well as vast support by many of you, we have been able to raise up to nearly $150,000 in past Nichi Bei Day of Giving efforts, permitting us to support our staff and the popular programs that you enjoy.

This year, the Kinjiro and Eiko Moriguchi Fund has donated $25,000 to this year’s campaign, and The Craig Foundation has pledged a $40,000 matching donation.

In addition to our third pilgrimage to the historic Wakamatsu Tea and Silk Farm Colony — the first large settlement of Japanese in the U.S. — on Saturday, Oct. 7, we have exciting new initiatives in store:

  • A new Japanese-language section in the Nichi Bei News, starting this issue, allowing us to bridge the Japanese and Japanese American communities.
  • Two new Websites, for the Nichi Bei News (www.nichibei.org) and Nichi Bei Foundation
  • A second Nichi Bei Day with the A’s on Saturday, Sept. 2.
  • New episodes from the “Nichi Bei Café,” a monthly livestream program that spotlights community organizations, individuals, issues and events. The “Nichi Bei Café” is funded by a generous grant from The Henri and Tomoye Takahashi Charitable Foundation. www.nichibei.org/cafe
  • The publication of “A Nikkei Harvest: Reviewing the Japanese American Historical Experience and Its Legacy” by Arthur A. Hansen with Wayne Maeda, the first book project by the Nichi Bei Foundation.
We hope you will continue to support our work by contributing to the Nichi Bei Day of Giving, and even consider creating your own fundraising page much like a walkathon. Please see the ad below for more information on how you can help and the thank you gifts that await you, or visit www.nichibei.org/give2nichibei.
  • We value your investment in community empowerment.
  • With our deep appreciation,
    Nichi Bei Foundation
