JoAnn Hironaka Stratton

Aug. 26, 1945 – Nov. 4, 2023

STRATTON, JOANN HIRONAKA was born in 1945 in a Japanese-American internment camp in Topaz, Utah to parents Takeo Hironaka and Kazuko Yamamoto. She had two older brothers, Kenny and Dean Hironaka (both predeceased). Upon the end of WWII, she moved back to her family’s home in Hayward, California until graduating from Mt. Eden High School. While in high school, she was one of the first Raiderettes – cheering for the Oakland Raiders and being paid in hot dogs and sodas. She went to California State University Chico where she met and asked out Ronald Stratton. They were married in 1964 and other than a few years on army bases, she lived in Paradise, California for most of her life. Before Stratton’s Market was sold, she could be found smiling at the checkout line. JoAnn is described almost unanimously by all who knew her as the nicest person they have ever met. She passed away on November 4, 2023 and is survived by her husband and their three children Linda, Teri and Robb, her son-in-law Paul Foor, and grandchildren Justin, Hunter, Jake, Chloe and Tessa. Per her wishes, there will be no memorial service, however, she would want all she knew to hug a loved one.
