MURANISHI JR., WILLIAM “BILLY” HITOSHI of Berkeley, CA entered into the eternal rest on October 13, 2023. He was a good and considerate friend to all who knew him.

Billy was born on April 28, 1954 in Oakland, Alameda County CA to William H. Muranishi Sr. and to Mary Shizuko (Mitsueda) Muranishi. Both parents have preceded him in death a number of years ago. He had a younger brother, Lesley who has also passed on approximately 7 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Joyce and her son Ashan Twymon.

Billy grew up in Berkeley attending Jefferson Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. High, Berkeley High School and The College of Alameda. He played sports during these years playing Little League Baseball in City League and loved to play basketball on the school grounds and in organized Buddhist Church League. Billy was an Eagle Scout with Troop 26 in Berkeley and inspired many to do and be the best they could be. Even until his death he was giving the Attendants and Nurses at the Hospital advise on how to live! He was an avid outdoorsman loving to Hunt and Fish. He spent as much of his free time Hunting (in the Season) or Fishing and would often go out of state in pursuit of game or fish. He loved abalone and would take risk to scale down 100-foot cliffs to get to prime spots. He also was an accomplished wild game cook as he loved to eat whatever he shot or caught.

He had many jobs during his life. First, he helped his father in the family business as a landscape gardener then worked for the Consumers Coop of Berkeley. He had a small business building shipping crates for businesses selling products overseas and domestically near the San Francisco International Airport. He was hired by Alameda County to work at the Highland Hospital as a landscape maintenance man then transferred to the Santa Rita Correctional facility and finished his working career at the Alameda County Courthouse and other county offices in Oakland. Bill retired from the County in 2018 due to illness.

Billy met Joyce, the love of his life in 1989. They were finally united in matrimony on September 28, 2018. They decided on that day to “spontaneously get married”! Billy in shorts while Joyce was wearing work out gear. Joyce had the perfect wedding dress to wear too. Joyce has a son from a previous marriage Ashan, he is a fine young man employed by Amazon and currently resides Louisville, KY.

Billy’s Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 13, 2024 beginning at 11:00am – 2:00pm.
