Nobuko Nancy Uota

Oct. 14, 1937 – June 27, 2024

Uota, Nobuko Nancy passed away in her sleep at Westmont of Morgan Hill, Calif.

Nancy Dote was born and raised in Sacramento, Calif. During WWII, Nancy and her parents and siblings, along with 120,000+ Japanese Americans, were unconstitutionally incarcerated and located at Tule Lake, Calif. concentration prison. She graduated from Sacramento High School and Sacramento City College. On Sept. 2, 1961, she married Hiroshi Uota of Ivanhoe, Calif. and raised four children on the family ranch for the next 40 years. She worked at public and private medical offices and was an active member of the Visalia Buddhist Church. She regularly went Karaoke singing with her friends and was an Obon dancing instructor for many years. In 2002, Nancy and Hiroshi retired, moved to Salinas, Calif., and became full time grandparents. In 2022, they moved to Morgan Hill, Calif., to be closer to their daughter for additional help and support.

Nancy was preceded in death by Hiroshi, her husband of 61 years.

Nancy is survived by her children Karin (Mark) Watanabe, Keith Uota, Neil (Katrina) Uota, and Spence (Irene) Uota; her grandchildren Dr. Brett and Taylor Watanabe, Kaila and Bryce Uota, and Brooke Uota; her siblings Hiroaki (Amy) Dote, and Emi Dote, and in-laws Junko Yamano, Yoko Sumida, and Gayle (Peter) Richards.
Nancy’s memorial service was on Saturday, July 13, at Salinas Buddhist Church.
