The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California will host “Kamishibai Children’s Stories with Terakoya Learning” from 3 to 5 p.m. at 1840 Sutter St. in S.F.’s Japantown. Rebecca Haga will perform Japanese folktales “Hanasaka Jii-san” (“The Old Man Who Made Trees Blossom”) and “Urashima Taro.” “With origins in 12th century etoki pictorial storytelling, kamishibai is a traditional Japanese form of storytelling performed by a kamishibaiya narrator, as sets of illustrated boards depicting the stories told are shown in sequence in a miniature display modeling a theater.” Fees: $4 JCCCNC members, $5 general public, $2 children 12 and under.
