The University of Southern California (USC) will honor Japanese Americans whose education and their lives were interrupted by their mass incarceration in concentration camps during WW II. The students will receive honorary baccalaureate and honorary master’s degrees at this year’s commencement ceremony. Honorees can arrange to receive honorary degrees by mail if they are not able to attend the commencement in person. USC will also posthumously honor former students. The procession begins at 8:30 a.m. and the ceremony at 9 a.m. Guests should arrive by 7 a.m. to secure parking and seating. Those who receive honorary degrees or honorary alumni certificates, along with their guests, are invited to attend a special reception following the commencement. Family members of deceased students are also invited to the reception. Info: (213) 740-4937; Grace Shiba, nisei@usc.edu; http://www.usc.edu/dept/pubrel/specialevents/commencement/Nisei.php.
