The 57th annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival returns April 13-14 and 20-21, filling San Francisco’s Japantown with Japanese cultural performances, Asian American entertainment, martial arts demonstrations, cultural exhibits (including origami, ikebana, bonsai, washi ningyo, shishu and shodo), a children’s section offering games and hand-on crafts, arts and crafts artisans, food vendors and more. One of the festival highlights, the Grand Parade, takes place April 21, with taiko drummers, dancers, the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival Queen and her court and community members and dignitaries filling the city’s streets, starting at the Civic Center Plaza at 1 p.m., heading up Polk Street to Post Street, and ending in the ethnic enclave at Post and Fillmore streets.
