There will be a free showing of “Ven. Jien Zhen,” an animated film by Roger Hsiao at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward, Calif. from 2 to 5 p.m. The educational animation follows the story of the venerable Jian Zhen, who makes multiple attempts to leave mainland China to help reform Buddhism in Japan during the mid-eighth century.
