The Nikkei Basketball Heritage Association and the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California will hold the “More Than Basketball” panel discussion at 2 p.m. at 1840 Sutter St. in S.F.’s Japantown. Chris Komai of the NBHA will lead the free panel discussion with Steven D. Chin, author of “The East Bay Japanese American Community: A Look at Community Culture” along with Keith Uyeda, a long-time San Francisco Drakes player and coach; Patricia Lee, who has played Asian American basketball since she was seven, and now coaches at the youth and high school levels; Miles Chan, a senior at Burlingame High School, where he will play on the varsity basketball team; and Danielle Mizuiri, who played for the San Francisco Enchantees and participated in the Shinzen Nikkei Youth Goodwill program as a player and a coach and coaches an Ardenette youth team. They will discuss “why Japanese American basketball has meaning beyond playing the sport.” To register, visit https://www.jcccnc.org/events/more-than-basketball-with-nbha/. Info: call (415) 567-5505.
