Nor Cal: “Becoming Julia Morgan” leaves Bay Area

“Becoming Julia Morgan” returns to the Bay Area. Returning cast includes Janis Stevens (Julia Morgan), Dave Garrett (William Randolph Hearst, Bernard Maybeck) and Sally Clawson (Marion Davies, Eliza Morgan, Phoebe Hearst). Ben Euphrat joins the cast as Jerry Mac, the San Francisco Examiner reporter and Avery Morgan. Barbara Oliver will direct. “Becoming Julia Morgan” follows the life of the architect from 1931 to 1937. There are flashbacks to her student days at UC Berkeley and at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and a flash forward to modern day. Morgan designed the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, Calif., and the original Japanese YWCA building in San Francisco’s Japantown (currently the home of Nihonmachi Little Friends), among other buildings. Initial showing at the Berkeley City Club, 2315 Durant Ave., Berkeley, Calif. Tickets cost $35. The show will be performed Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 5 p.m. The production at the Sausalito Woman’s Club, 120 Central Ave., Sausalito, Calif. will be performed Thursday, Jan. 13 and Friday, Jan. 14 Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $40.
