The Wakamtasu Tea and Silk Colony will host an open house and park planning meeting at the Gold Hill Ranch, 941 Cold Springs Rd., Placerville, Calif. Event features a taiko performance, a sampling of Japanese culture and historical presentations of the first sizable Japanese settlement recorded on American soil, and a historical reenactment of the arrival of the colonists, a display of artifacts, as well as a discussion panel on Japanese history. Event organizers encourage the public to attend the park planning meeting to discuss the future of the site. Event is free, but donations are accepted. Plan to bring a picnic lunch.
