The “Richmond-Shimada Golden Rose Festival,” 403 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond, Calif. (The Memorial Convention Center) will celebrate the start of Japan’s Golden Week. The festival, held from 2 to 6 p.m., celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Richmond Shimada Friendship. Dozens of people from Japan will participate. Demonstrations may include: Native American and Latin music, an “Ethnic/Asian” music group, taiko, iaido (sword drawing) techniques and other martial arts, flower arrangements, tea ceremony, calligraphy and haiku readings: $10 fee, includes Japanese, Mexican or Soul food.
