The 2011 “Bay Area Day of Remembrance” will takes place at the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas with a reception following at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California.

Newly elected San Francisco school board member Emily Murase will emcee and Rev. Michael Yoshii of the Buena Vista United Methodist Church in Alameda will be the keynote speaker. Rev. Yoshii has played a key role in developing a supportive relationship between Japanese Americans and Arabs and Muslims and other communities locally, nationally, and internationally. The event will close with the traditional candle lighting ceremony commemorating the concentration camps and honoring the array of activism within the community.

Tickets are $15 at the door, $12 in advance, $8 for students and $5 for seniors through NJAHS.
