The JCCCNC will host a workshop on how to make hanamidango and ukishima, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at 1840 Sutter St. in SF’s Japantown. Hanamidango are small multicolor balls of konashi (kneaded bean paste) placed on a skewer to represent the flowering cherry blossoms. Ukishima (floating island) is a 2-layered steamed sweet made with two types of flour, eggs and koshian, smooth sweet bean paste. Cost: is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Info: (415) 567-5505.
