The Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco, the San Francisco Unified School District and the Asian Art Museum will co-host a symposium on Japanese language education from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Asian Art Museum’s, Samsung Hall, located at 200 Larkin St., S.F. The symposium will demonstrate the importance and benefits of learning Japanese to prepare students for the 21st century, and will examine the current state of Japanese language education in the Bay Area. Yo Azama, the 2012 winner of the National Language Teacher of the Year Award by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language will deliver the keynote speech. Key stakeholders will discuss how to maintain and grow language programs in difficult economic times. (Registration opens at 12:30 p.m.) A reception will be held at Consul General of Japan in San Francisco Hiroshi Inomata’s official residence after the symposium.
