The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC) will hold two screenings of “Dreams Finally Realized – The Untold Stories of California Nisei Forced out of Higher Education” in Berkeley and Los Angeles. The screenings will feature videos that capture the never before told stories of the Nisei, chronicling their educational aspirations; experiences being denied their civil liberties as college students, following Executive Order 9066, which resulted in their mass incarceration in concentration camps during World War II; return to their campuses some 67 years later to receive an honorary degree. The Northern California screening will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the University of California, Berkeley Campus Multicultural Community Center. Contact Courtney Okuhara at (415) 567-5505 or via e-mail at cokuhara@jcccnc.org to RSVP.
