Japanese American Community Events
E-mail calendar@nichibeiweekly.org to submit your own Japanese American and Asian American events for potential inclusion in our print and Web calendars.
Mix, mingle and drink with Project by Project (PbP) and the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) from 4 to 6 p.m. on Fri., March 11, at the O Izakaya Lounge at Hotel Kabuki. A $10 donation is suggested. Parking is available in the public garage beneath the Hotel Kabuki.
As part of PbP’s year-long campaign on Asian Americans and Education, they are collaborating with CAAM to present the documentary “The Learning.”
Spurred on by No Child Left Behind mandates and the difficulty in finding qualified applicants for hard-to-fill, underpaid teaching positions in math, science and special education, many American schools have begun recruiting teachers from abroad, including places as faraway as the Philippines. “The Learning” is directed by Ramona Diaz, the award-winning director of “Imelda” and “Spirits Rising.”
